Shortened form of "of the clock", that is, "according to the clock".

  1. After a numeral, used to designate the time when the minute hand of a clock or watch points to twelve (as opposed to a certain number of minutes before or after that time) and the hour hand points to the specified numeral.
  2. After a numeral, in a direction to a point on the circumference of an imaginary horizontal circle with the speaker or writer at its centre, with 12 o'clock meaning straight ahead.
