Noun
metal
- A category of music entailing a number of genres (including thrash metal, death metal, and black metal, considered genres rather than subdivisions of a greater genre) based on rock, and categorised by strong and/or fast drum-beats, often distorted guitars, and lyrics based on interest in the opposite sex and/or negative emotions. Previously known as heavy metal, but nowadays heavy metal is considered more a particular genre of the category, which is closer to its rock origins than some of the later developments.
