- An adherent of Judaism.
- A person born of a Jewish mother who has not professed a different religious belief system;
- A person with a Jewish mother or father, or who has grown up in a Jewish household.
- A person of Jewish ethnicity (See secular Jew).
Usage Note
The question of "who is a Jew" is the subject of much discussion in the Jewish community. Which definition is appropriate is highly dependent on context.
